The existing Barwon River road bridge is a 300m long timber bridge , built in 1927, It is being reconstructed as it is rapidly reaching the end of its operational life. Along with the reconstruction of the timber & concrete road bridge a new contemporary, architecturally designed pedestrian bridge is also to be constructed adjacent to the road bridge. The construction of both bridges is within the tidal zone and all foundations for the bridges are below sea level.
These factors provide for a very exciting and challenging project. The project cost is 40 million dollars. Gertzel Survey are contracted to McConnell Dowell for the provision of surveying services for the project. Survey work so far has included – hydrographic surveys to prove the existing conditions of the Barwon River.
